A Stained Disassociation
Acrylic Paint
Canvas 30” x 30”
“As I moved my eyes across the tubes of paint, I gravitated towards brighter yet slightly muted, uplifting colors. And as I lifted my brush and moved it across the canvas, I began with loose lines depicting male figures. At first it didn’t feel right, as I naturally gravitate toward female references, though I was intrigued with where the lines took me. Both the continued use of these colors and my squiggly male figures are less often seen in my body of work. Furthermore, with the landscapes emerging through the men or simply beings in this piece, I sit back and look at “A Stained Disassociation” and see all the places I’ve traveled to, individuals I’ve met, and connections that still tie me to all of them and the person I was then.
What now seems to be thoughtless moments of time slipping by; as if I’ve dissolved into my surroundings - faded into fake smiles and held prisoner to various versions of myself. “A Stained Disassociation” shines light on the often isolating feeling of depression and anxiety. Moving through each day, experiencing yet another thoughtless perspective to what influences our lives, are our memories and the subconscious conversations we keep."
