Marie-Ange Pollonais
"I am a fine artist at the University of Tampa who has recently added graphic design to my creative mix. This allows me to combine the physical aspect and knowledge of the fine arts with computer technical expertise. As an island girl, my work is heavily influenced by various aspects of my island’s cultural diversity. Trinidad and Tobago’s multicultural nature is unparalleled; a nation where people of different religions, races and ethnicities all come together respecting and participating in one another’s traditions creating one big “melting pot” of cultures. There is no other way to describe it than, beautiful, colourful chaos. Mixed media work has heavily imprinted on my current body of work. I am constantly learning about new and exciting materials to work with; from oil painting, spray painting, encaustic, beer spray and even oxidation of liquid mediums such as metal and copper. I have decided to combine my figurative oil painting skills, experimentation in oxidizing metals as well as abstract colouring of the body in order to create my upcoming thesis exhibition. This not only displays an unconventional intriguing base for the figures but expresses the partnering figures in an array of enchanting colours. This combination everts to my Thesis parallel named “Love is magic” which explores inclusion of all types of partnership. I am a strong believer in spreading love and positivity. In the past few months I have opened myself up to many commissions both in painting and graphic design, this has opened up a drive to become a successful artist. Apart from launching my first few clothing designs I have also sold my posters globally. I am constantly pushing myself in every direction artistically as it is at the core of my passions."
